Description

IL15RA (interleukin 15 receptor subunit alpha), also known as CD215, is a single-pass type I transmembrane glycoprotein. IL15RA lacks structural features characteristic of members of the cytokine receptor superfamily. IL15RA contains only 1 Sushi (CCP/SCR) domains in the extracellular region. IL15RA is a cytokine receptor that specifically binds IL15 with high affinity. The receptors of IL15 and IL2 share two subunits, IL2R-beta and IL2R-gamma. This forms the basis of many overlapping biological activities of IL15 and IL2. IL15RA is structurally related to IL2RA/IL2Ralpha, an additional IL2-specific alpha subunit necessary for high affinity IL2 binding. Unlike IL2RA, IL15RA is capable of binding IL15 with high affinity independent of other subunits, which suggests distinct roles between IL15 and IL2. This receptor is reported to enhance cell proliferation and expression of apoptosis inhibitor BCL2L1/BCL2-XL and BCL2. IL15RA can signal both in cis and trans where IL15R from one subset of cells presents IL15 to neighboring IL2RG-expressing cells. Expression of different isoforms of IL15RA may alter or interfere with signal transduction. Among these isoforms, Isoform 5, 6, 7 and 8 do not bind IL15. A soluble form (sIL-15RA) arises from proteolytic shedding of the membrane-anchored receptor and also binds IL-15 and thus interferes with IL-15 binding to the membrane receptor.

Primers: Gene insert coding sequence can be confirmed by following primers:

(a) forward (or 5'-end) primer: 5’-CAAATGGGCGGTAGGCGTG-3’;

(b) reverse (or 3'-end) primer: 5’-CCAGGTTTCCGGGCCCTCAC-3’

Note: The sequence may vary due to the naturally occurring variants or mutations, such as single nucleotide polymorphism, or the artifact during PCR amplification.  High fidelity PCR systems should always be used.
