BTN2A1 (Butyrophilin subfamily 2 member A1) is a single pass type I transmembrane protein belonging to the BTN/MOG family of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily (IgSF). Butyrophilin (BTN) is the major protein associated with fat droplets in the milk. The BTN genes are a group of major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-associated genes that encode type I transmembrane proteins with 2 extracellular immunoglobulin (Ig) domains and an intracellular B30.2/SPRY (PRYSPRY) domain. Three subfamilies of human BTN genes are located in the MHC class I region: the single-copy BTN1A1 gene and the BTN2 (e.g., BTN2A1) and BTN3 (e.g., BNT3A1) genes, which have undergone tandem duplication, resulting in 3 copies of each. BTN2A1 contains 1 Ig-like V-type (IgV) domains in the extracelluar region (ECD). BTN2A1 may be involved in lipid, fatty-acid, and sterol metabolism. Alterations in the BTN2A1 gene may be associated with several disease states including metabolic syndrome. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for BTN2A1.

Construct Details: Full length human BTN2A1 gene is subcloned into the Lentiviral expression vector pLTC with an upstream CMV promoter +/- an antibiotics selection marker, which can be used for both transient and stable expression in mammalian cells. It can be co-transfected with the LentiPAK DNA mix (SKU# LP-001) into HEK293 cells to produce high titer lentiviral particles.
